By now, I'm sure everyone knows because they either watched it happen, or watched the news recaps, but the New Orleans Saints have finally gotten to a Super Bowl for the first time and actually won it.
With a 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, the Saints are flying high after having an amazing season (they were undefeated most of it,) after reaching the Super Bowl, and after beating the nearly unstoppable Colts. They are finally giving their fans something to celebrate other than Marti Gras.
Drew Brees was rather impressive, throwing 32 for 39 passes, 288 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Saint's kicker, Hartley, also had a good game, nailing three 40+ yard field goals to keep them alive throughout. The most impressive person, however, was Head Coach Sean Payton (a former Cowboys assistant btw,) who played smart and aggressive and set the tone for the 2nd half with a successful onside kick. That may have been the play that turned the game around.
The other play that turned the game around and took the victory away from Indianapolis was a pick-six by New Orleans' Tracy Porter, who grabbed the pass with just a bit more than 3 minutes left in the game and with the Colts about to tie the game up. The score stood at 31-17 and even comeback-kid, Peyton Manning, couldn't manage to take control back.
I must say, I am glad that the Saints got the victory. I was rooting for them because they were the underdogs, because they are in the NFC and because Dallas already beat them in the regular season (whereas I probably wouldn't have been rooting for the Vikings, had they made it that far.) It was a good game... but now we must wait about 6 months until there is anymore football. With the good comes the bad. Oh well...
I'll do my best to update if there's any Cowboys news, but if not, I'll see you in April (draft) and August (pre-season) until then... PEACE...
