Wild Card Round Recap - Dallas (34) vs Philly (14)

And The Cowboys' season continues...

After successfully beating The Eagles twice in the regular season (which includes last week,) Dallas was hoping for a three-peat... and that's just what they got.

In practically a mirror image of last week's game, Dallas dominated Philly in all areas of play, especially on defense, which held DeSean "we gonna sting they ass" Jackson to only 14 yards receiving. The first Philly points actually came from a Michael Vick pass to Jeremy Maclin out of the wildcat formation. The Cowboys had busted coverage because they were expecting a run and Mike Jenkins slipped which allowed Maclin to run for a 76 yard touchdown.

Dallas didn't let it phaze them, and Felix Jones even responded to that long run late in the game with a 73 yard rush from scrimmage. The Felix Jones run pretty much sealed the game in the 3rd quarter with a 34-7 lead.

If Dallas' defense continues to play this dominant, it's easy to say that they have a good shot at reaching Miami in February. First step however, is Minnesota.

Good old Minnesota with their newly acquired and sure to retire at the end of the season only to be picked up by another team next season, Brett Favre. We also can't forget about Peterson, Rice, Jarred Allen and the rest of the cast. It isn't going to be an easy victory, but it's possible.

I don't even want to speculate too much, but it's a pretty good match-up. If Dallas loses, I'm betting it's because they beat themselves... they have the talent to stop Peterson, pressure Favre, as well as throw at The Vikings' secondary.

I imagine that it's going to be tough to get the run going, but I'm sure Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will be up for the challenge. Marion Barber has a sore knee and will be a game-day decision if he plays, but there's nothing more that he wants than to play this game since Minnesota is his home-town.

My jersey is already on, my fingers are crossed and I'm excited as hell for Sunday. GO COWBOYS!!! CRUNCH TIME!!!

3rd Time's a Charm?

It wasn't long ago that the Cowboys were in a very similar situation that they are now... having swept a division team in the regular season and then battling them again for a third time in the playoffs.

The last such occurance was 3 years ago, when Dallas went 13-3 in the regular season and then headed into the playoffs to face the Giants (who Dallas swept in regular season.) The Giants proved themselves to be the better team for that game and swiftly ended the Cowboys' playoff run, as well as sailing to a Super Bowl victory against the undefeated Patriots.

Fast foward 3 years and we see a Dallas team that just barely squeaked into the playoffs with an 11-5 record, man-handled the Eagles in the regular season finale (24-0) and are now set for a rematch game against Philly in the playoffs, once again in Cowboys Stadium.

There's thousands of ways this game could go, hundreds of storylines involved and the ultimate outcome could go either way.

The season finale crushing of Philly 24-0 was a big blow to the Eagles, but it's highly unlikely they will play as sub-par as they did for this upcoming match-up. I expect blitz after blitz after blitz, which seemed very sparce in the last game.

Dallas, on the other-hand will have to do their best to counter the blitz... one drop back passes, excellent protection from the O-line and creative route running by the receivers.

An effective running game will still need to be established early on, which sets up Romo for what he is best at, the Play-Action Pass.

The defense has been playing lights out lately, and for the first time in Cowboys history, they posted two shutout games back-to-back (against Division Rivals, nonetheless.) This trend needs to continue and the defense needs to eliminate big plays, get pressure on McNabb, and stay healthy if they want to keep this playoff run alive... Offense gets the glory, but Defense wins Championships!

The game will be Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, and I got my countdown clock ticking down. If Dallas does indeed win against Philly, not only are they 2 steps away from the Super Bowl, but I think they have a good shot at it. I feel even more secure than I did in '07 when they seemed destined to reach the big Bowl... if it's going to happen, more than likely it will happen this year.

GO COWBOYS!!

Week 17 Recap : Philly (0) @ Dallas (24)

WooBoy! I mean 'Boys! Now that's the way to finish a season. The unfortunate part of this excellent victory which gave Dallas the Division Title, is that next Saturday's wild card game will be a carbon copy of this past game, and I guarantee we'll be seeing a totally different Eagles team then.

For now, I'm basking in the glory of two blowout games in a row. Against two division rivals nonetheless.

The game was great and the defense is playing, dare I say, Super Bowl caliber defense right now. Couple that with the fact that Romo has been playing some of the greatest consecutive play that he's ever shown. The pieces are more in place than they were in that 2007 run. Fingers are definately crossed, this upcoming game will be no cake-walk.

Do I think they have the drive to go all the way and once again tie Pittsburgh with 6 Rings? It's a long shot, but the pieces are coming together nicely.

No Bye Week Coming

As Minnesota sails to a 41-0 lead over the Giants midway through the third quarter... It looks highly unlikely that Dallas will get the help they need in order to capture the number 2 seed. Dallas needed a victory, coupled with a Minnesota and Arizona loss.

Oh well, they're still fighting for the Division Title and to keep Philly away from that number 2 spot. Plus, remember that 44-6 thing... They have much incentive.
